Jerry Archer

September 13, 1958 — August 17, 2015

Jerry Wayne Archer was the first born to Wanda Crawford and Claude Edmond Archer on September 13, 1958 in Holland, Mo. Younger siblings Jimmy Dale and Melissa Carol followed shortly after. As soon as he could crawl, he would make his way over to his beloved Mama & Papa, Hubert & Jerline Archer, with his stand in siblings Brenda Shirlene, James Edwin, and Mervin.

Jerry spent his youth fishing and hunting in the back-country of Southeast Missouri. He was a standout academic student, tremendous athlete, hard worker, and good friend. He was recruited by baseball and basketball scouts. In 1976 began his basketball career at Southeast Missouri State University with his wife of 3 years Susie Diane Sinko by his side.

During the oil field boom of 1980, Archer moved to Laredo, Texas where he never met a stranger. Intelligent beyond belief, he taught himself Spanish & spoke it loud and proud in his heavy Southern accent anytime he got a chance. A blue-blooded Democrat through and through, he loved and engaged in politics at every level from Mayor Ramirez to Governor Richards & the Clintons.

In 1983, after “seeing the biggest most beautiful brown eyes I had ever seen” he married Patricia Paredes. They had two children, Jason Hubert & Catherine Jerline Archer whom he never failed to tell how much he loved and how ‘very very proud’ he was of them.

A paradox of a man, he had an array of seemingly unconnected interests and a wealth of knowledge. He was tall with an impressive sense of humor that lingered long after he left the room. No one was safe from a jab of his quick wit or an unsuspected comforting squeeze of the hand and a wink.

His hobbies and interests included golf, fishing, listening to old country music, gossip magazines, sports, Nascar, crime novels, crossword puzzles, playing cards, Sudoku, ‘chick flicks’ and surrounding himself with friends. Once he became a grandfather, his primary interest was his 3 grandchildren. His final days were spent at home, cooking and watching golf and Rugrats with his grandson Jaxon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude Edmund and Wanda June, his grandparents Raymond Marshall and Q-Bell Crawford, Hubert and Jerline Archer and uncle, Larry Gene Archer.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, US Army Specialist Jason Hubert (Daphne) and Catherine Jerline, his siblings: Melissa Carol (Gary) Brittain and Jimmy Dale (Sonia), aunt and uncles: Brenda Shirleen and James Edwin and Allen Crawford, his grandchildren: Jacob, Jaxon, Madeline.
