Elena Ruiz Vitela

Elena Ruiz Vitela, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Laredo, Texas, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Her passing marks the end of a beautiful life filled with love, family, faith, cherished memories, and countless moments that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Elena was born to Rogelio Vitela and Josefa Ruiz, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Pedro Antonio Holguin, and her sister, Audelia Perez Vitela.

Elena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family was the greatest treasure of her life, and she found immense joy in the love and closeness they shared. Her kindness, warmth, strength, and generous heart touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through the generations.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Maria De Los Angeles (Abraham Khatib) Valenzuela, Julissa (Cesar Benavides) Holguin, and Juan Jose (Marylin) Holguin; her siblings, Trinidad Vitela, Juan (Monica) R. Vitela, Herasmo Vitela, and Rogelio (Idolina) Vitela Jr.; and her beloved grandchildren, Josie Benavides, Angie Benavides, Cesar Benavides, Amy Holguin, Janie Julissa Holguin, Betsy Holguin, Juan Holguin Jr., Kimberly Holguín, Diana Khatib, and Sara Khatid.

She is also survived by her nephews, Juan Estefan Vitela, Krishna Sanchez, David Vitela, Rogelio Vitela Jr., and Oscar Vitela, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Though Elena is no longer with us in person, her love will remain deeply woven into the lives of all who knew and loved her. Her family will carry her memory in their hearts, in the stories they share, in the traditions she helped create, and in the love she so freely gave.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

May she rest peacefully in the loving embrace of those who went before her, and may her memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Gamez & Sons Funeral and Cremations from 5 pm to 9 pm. Liturgy of the Word and Holy Rosary will be held at 7 pm.

Services conclude after the visitation. A cremation will take place at a later date.
